If you use an Instant lifting gel under your eyes, can you apply your usual concealer or powder afterwards? With My SOS Beauty’s Instant lifting gel, the answer is clear: only powder products can be applied after the gel, on the area where it has been placed. Liquid and cream textures should not be layered over it.
You do not need to replace all your makeup with powder. The rule applies to the area covered by the gel, not to the rest of your face. Plan your makeup around that area, but do not expect powder to make the gel last longer.
Why does makeup texture matter?
According to the manufacturer, the gel forms a thin film as it dries. It creates a tightening sensation around the eyes and is intended to make the area look more rested. Applied in a thin layer to clean skin, it dries within a few minutes.
Because the film stays on the skin’s surface, anything applied afterwards comes into contact with it. The product instructions state that water- or oil-based products may damage the film. Only powder products are authorised after application.
This instruction applies to this formula. It is not a general rule for every product described as “lifting”. Nor does it show that the gel has a lasting anti-ageing effect. The sensation is temporary, and the skin returns to its usual texture and appearance after cleansing.
Powder, liquid or cream: comparing options on the treated area
The table below applies only to skin covered by the Instant lifting gel. The gel is designed for the under-eye area and crow’s feet, not the moving eyelid or other parts of the face.
| Makeup product | After the gel, on the treated area | Practical guide |
|---|---|---|
| Powder makeup | Authorised by the manufacturer | Keep the application dry, without adding water or mist. |
| Liquid foundation | Avoid | Do not spread it over the film, even when blending your complexion. |
| Liquid concealer or corrector | Avoid | A targeted correction is still a liquid layer. |
| Cream concealer or corrector | Avoid | A cream texture is not an authorised alternative to liquid. |
| Oil or oil-based skincare | Avoid | The manufacturer warns that it may alter the film. |
| Setting mist or spray | Do not apply to the film | Do not re-wet the area after applying powder. |
A product labelled “oil-free” is not automatically compatible. If it is liquid, it does not meet the instruction to use “only powder products”. The same applies to cream concealer: applying powder over it later does not make the cream compatible.

Organising your makeup around the eye contour
First, identify the area that must stay free of liquid products
Before applying your makeup, decide where you will apply the gel: under the eyes and on the crow’s feet. This boundary can help you avoid applying foundation under the eyes out of habit.
For more skincare guidance, see our article on the eye contour.
Keep liquid textures away from the film
You can continue using your usual foundation on the rest of your face, as long as it stays off the treated area. There is no need to use powder on your cheeks, forehead or chin for the rest of your makeup to be compatible with the gel.
If your usual under-eye makeup is a liquid or cream concealer, you will need to choose between using the concealer without the gel in this area and using the gel followed only by powder makeup. The product instructions do not support layering both together.
Do not turn powder application into a wet application
Moistening the powder or its applicator would bring water into contact with the film, so it would not follow the product instructions. A finishing mist is also incompatible with the film, even after you have applied powder.
Whether a product works with the gel and whether it suits your skin are separate questions. If you have blemishes, see our advice on makeup and acne.
What powder does not guarantee
Powder is the authorised category, but it does not guarantee the same coverage as your concealer or a specific duration of wear for the gel. The manufacturer states that wear depends in particular on your skin type and the day’s activities.
Adding more powder will not make the film more resistant. You can also leave the area without makeup after applying the gel. Powder is an option, not a requirement.
When it is time to cleanse, the priority changes. The film should be removed rather than preserved. The manufacturer states that it comes off during makeup removal. Our article on the importance of makeup removal guides you through this step. As general advice, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends gentle cleansing without abrasive products or rubbing.
FAQ: the combinations to remember
Can I apply powder over my liquid concealer after the gel?
No. Applying powder afterwards does not change the nature of the concealer already placed on the film. On the treated area, only powder products are authorised after the gel.
Can I use a setting mist after applying powder?
Not on the area covered by the gel. The mist would put a liquid product over the film. Avoid spraying the treated under-eye area or crow’s feet.
Does the effect remain after makeup removal?
No. The manufacturer describes a temporary sensation. After cleansing, the skin returns to its usual texture and appearance. This gel should not be presented as a product that creates a lasting lifting effect.
